YouGuard is a parental monitoring app that gives parents visibility into their children's YouTube activity and browsing, with text messages and phone calls coming soon. For Parents

How does YouGuard work?
Sign up with your Google account, then send an invite link to your child. When they click the link and connect their YouTube account, you'll be able to see their subscriptions and liked videos. You can then block concerning channels (which unsubscribes them and unlikes videos) or approve safe ones.
What can I see on my child's account?
YouTube: Subscriptions and liked videos. Browsing: Pages opened in Chrome with Browser Shield. Coming soon with our Android app: text messages, photo/video attachments and a call log with contact status. You cannot see passwords, email contents, or other apps. Everything monitored is transparent to your child.
Is this spyware?
No. YouGuard is fully transparent - your child knows they're being monitored. They voluntarily connect their account via an invite link you send them, and they can disconnect at any time. This is designed to build trust, not break it.
What happens when I block a channel?
Blocking a channel in YouGuard unsubscribes your child and unlikes all videos from that channel. The channel is added to your blocklist. If they try to resubscribe, it's automatically removed during the next sync. This actually changes YouTube's algorithm, reducing recommendations for similar content.

Can adults use YouGuard for accountability?
Yes! YouGuard isn't just for parents. Spouses, friends, and accountability partners can mutually monitor each other's YouTube activity. It's a great tool for anyone who wants help staying accountable for what they watch.
How is adult accountability different from parental monitoring?
Adult accountability works both ways - both parties can see each other's activity. There are no age restrictions or approval workflows. You and your accountability partner both have full visibility and equal access.

Privacy & Security

Is my data safe?
Yes. All data is transmitted over HTTPS encryption and stored in encrypted databases. We use OAuth 2.0 for secure authentication. Your data is never sold to advertisers or third parties, and you can delete your account and all associated data at any time.
What is COPPA and how does YouGuard comply?
COPPA (Children's Online Privacy Protection Act) protects children under 13. YouGuard is built around it: accounts for children under 13 are read-only, and a parent must verify consent with a $0.50 card charge (refunded right away) before the child can be connected. We have three age tiers with appropriate protections for each.
Who has access to my data?
Only you and your designated guardians or accountability partners can see your data. Our infrastructure providers process data as needed to deliver the service but don't access it for their own purposes. We use industry-standard encryption for all data transmission.

Not yet — it's coming soon. YouGuard Messenger, our Android texting app, is in testing. Once it launches, your child will use it as their default texting app and messages will sync to your parent dashboard, including photos and videos. Coming soon. Call visibility arrives with YouGuard Messenger for Android, now in testing: incoming and outgoing calls, whether the number is a known contact, and call duration. We won't record calls — just provide visibility so you know who they're talking to.
Is there an Android app?

What is YouGuard Browser Shield?
A Chrome browser extension that enforces your YouTube approvals on computers. Unapproved channels are blocked and redirected to approved content automatically. It syncs with your YouGuard channel approvals so rules you set on one device apply everywhere.
How does the browser extension handle blocked channels?
Instead of showing a confrontational block page, the extension redirects to a random approved video. This avoids conflict while still protecting your child. They get content you've approved instead of content you haven't reviewed yet.

Content Detection

How does content detection work?
YouGuard scans channel descriptions and video titles to flag potential concerns like mature content, violence, or inappropriate themes. You define what matters to your family, and we surface content that matches your rules. It's a helpful tool, but always use your own judgment when reviewing content.
Can I customize what gets flagged?
Yes! You can create custom content evaluation rules for your family. Define topics you want to restrict (like violence or gambling), permit (like educational content), or encourage (like science or music). YouGuard applies your rules when analyzing content.
